Choices and Transformation

Choices. We all have them. Take a look at what you need to know about the brand-new Crash Filene’s Centers of Excellence experience and the choice you can make to champion an emerging leader at your credit union or make the choice to believe in yourself.

Last month I read a book that teased the idea of hundreds of different versions of Earth, 378 versions to be exact. And, on each planet was a version of you, likely very similar as the other 378 versions of you with some slight or not so slight variations. These differences all occurred because of a choice or collection of choices made in one alternate universe that wasn't made in another: where you live, who you love, your profession, what you look like, how much money you have, etc.

First, I need to mention this book is FICTION. Second, this post isn't going to go as deep on the philosophy of choice as The Space Between Worlds, the book I’m referring to above. However, this post is about YOU making a choice: the choice to champion someone else OR believe in yourself – both very noble efforts, especially in 2020!

Choice to Champion Someone Else

If I had to sum up this year in one word it would be transformational. We’ve all been forced to change how we work and live our daily lives. Many of us now work from home, while others are still going into the office to serve members on the frontline of this pandemic. Strategic initiatives have and will continue to shift. Events that once happened in-person are now virtual. And we’ve all suffered from Zoom fatigue by now, likely, more than once.

Through all this transformational change, the feedback we’ve heard from Cooperative Trust members is clear: professional development “bank accounts” are drained, some are in the negative. So what can we do about these metaphorically drained accounts, and how can we make sure to keep our best people working with us?

Simple. Take full advantage of your Filene membership and enroll your talent into the Cooperative Trust’s new program: Crash Filene’s Centers of Excellence.

Choice to Believe in Yourself

If you’re a Crasher reading this, and you want to participate, SHARE this with your boss and explain why you want to be selected to participate.

Q: What is Crash Filene’s Centers of Excellence?
A: This Crash is different from a typical Crash because those enrolled will participate in a 10-month program. Crashers who Crash Filene’s Centers of Excellence will meet monthly for 90-minutes virtually. We will explore topics related to Filene’s Centers of Excellence giving Crashers discussion prompts and time to work with and learn from each other. At the end of the program, Crashers will have a strong foundation and understanding of the key areas of interest for credit unions, where to go for help, and a community of other Crashers for life.

Q: What is the cost?
A: Another key difference between this program and other Crashes is that this program is for Filene members at Innovator level or above only. This is a member benefit you don’t want to lose. Filene members at Innovator level and up can enroll up to TWO Crashers into this program. Curious about your Filene Membership status? Click here.

If your credit union isn’t a Filene member at the Innovator level or above you can participate in other Filene research event Crashes.

Q: Who should participate?
A: Crashers should be selected for their contributions to the organization and the community. The ideal participant is:

  • Curious: asks questions, does the research to understand their interests
  • Brave: challenges why we do the things we do
  • Open-minded: willing to change their opinion when they learn new information
  • Supportive: a team player, a servant leader

Equally important to the type of person selected to participate is the support this person has from their boss to spend some time away from the office.

Q: How do I enroll Crashers?
A: Once your credit union has selected its Crashers a member of the leadership team can enroll the Crashers here.

Q: What if I still have more questions?
A: Join me on October 16 or 23 to hear more about Crash Filene’s Centers of Excellence. You’ll have a chance to ask me any questions that come to mind about the program, as well as confirm your membership level.
