Led by Filene Fellow Quinetta Roberson of Michigan State University, the Center of Excellence for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) explores the changing demographic landscape of the cooperative finance industry and provides evidence-based solutions for tapping into the power of diversity, equity, and inclusion to enhance member financial well-being and credit union success.

WHAT WORK WILL BE DONE BY THE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR DEI?

The Center for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is a five-year research project to explore DEI opportunities and challenges for credit unions to better serve their members and attract, retain and develop top talent. DEI is not new to credit unions, and it is not new to Filene. Past Filene research includes work on women in leadership, financial services for low-income populations or people of color, and how financial institutions can serve the LGBTQ+ community. There are also many others in the credit union system making important contributions in these areas. Nonetheless, there remains much work to be done. The work of this Center will build on this foundation to conduct applied research to help the industry understand how to leverage diversity, equity, and inclusion to create business value and drive performance.
