Later this week, the Filene Research Institute will be holding a colloquium on “large-scale credit union collaboration”. During this one day meeting we will be convening a bunch of academic experts, consultants and credit union executives to scope out how more folks in the industry can collaborate on back – and front-office activities.
Although there is already a tremendous amount of collaboration going on in credit unions, the industry seems to lack the will to collobarate on an extremely large scale in such areas as information technology, purchasing, human resources and other functions.
If you have a particular topic you would like us to examine at this meeting, please leave us a comment. For those who won’t be able to make it to the event, not to worry, we will be publishing the proceedings later this year or early 2008.
We’ll also be blogging from the colloquium so look for “live” updates later in the week.

At BarCampBankSeattle, the need for an open source core system was one of the highlights. Flickr pics tagged barcampbankseattle tell some of the story on whiteboards.
If it gets discussed at the colloquium, blog back!

As one of the few lay persons attending BarCampBank (meaning I’m not tech savvy at all) I cannot tell you how excited I am that Filene is beginning this conversation on collaboration.
I am convinced that Jesse Robbins and Trey Reeme are the pioneers of the future credit union model. I strongly urge everyone to read the wiki on BarCampBank and to listen to these incredibly talented and philosophy driven people.

Thanks for the heads up on the BarCampBank discussions. I have heard a tremendous amount of great stuff about the event. We will definitely tickle the brains of attendees with some of the ideas that came out of your event.

This sure seems to be a hot topic! Seems like I caught a lengthy article recently in reference to the NACUSO mission in the collaboration direction. Are these two programs related in some way or stand alone?

How about credit unions teaming up and collaborating on advertising efforts for a community?

Can we look at a collaberative loan application website for credit unions similar to lendingtree.com?

It’s exciting that Filene is about to embark on a special long term project to find out the secrets of capturing GEN Y relationships. Might I suggest that one of your i3 groups has already stumbled on one of the primary building blocks for discovering how to reach young adults. The business plan for the iNFORM product mentions the word women (young women, to be exact) 18 times. And yet, I have yet to see that fact mentioned in any of the strategies that are attempting to explain how to reach young adults (GEN Y). Why? I’m not sure, but I’m going to keep on “preaching” that message until someone wakes up (excuse the passion!). Seriously…can someone begin to include research involving WOMEN, and how to best serve their needs? I heard it mentioned somewhere that “when you meet the expectations of today’s woman…you exceed the expectations of men”. Thanks For Listening…again!

Roger, I appreciate your comments and share your view. In fact, I am a member of an i3 team that is focusing our efforts on addressing a very common “pain point” with women, the chore of paying bills and managing household finances. Look for more on this in the coming months.
