Through independent research and innovation, the Filene Research Institute explores issues vital to the future of credit unions and consumer finance.

Filene's Ideas Grow Here

  1. Virtuous Circle, Part 119: Debt in Focus

    Virtuouscircle

The credit union system, when at its best, operates as a virtuous circle. Success, innovation, learning, and funding from any part of the system helps fuel success, innovation, learning, and funding for the rest of the system. The Filene Research Institute and National Credit Union Foundation are perfect examples of how this concept manifests itself. Our existence depends on the success of credit unions, both individually and collectively. In turn, our success helps credit unions become even better at the many things they do for consumers. Further, the healthier credit unions make their members’ financial lives, the healthier our entire economic system becomes.

Filene’s i3 program is also a virtuous circle. Some of the brightest and most creative minds in the credit union system dedicate two years and countless hours to their already busy schedules to create, test, and implement financial service innovations that improve consumers’ lives. Without these volunteers, funding for research, and the dedication of Filene staff, ideas like Save to Win, Savings Revolution, MatriMoney, Smart Score would have never gotten off of the ground.

The needle moves when we work together.

With this spirit in mind, we are happy to announce an agreement with the National Credit Union Foundation to make August 2010 a very special month for contributions to both of our organizations. Filene will donate $200 to the NCUF general fund for every purchase of the powerful Debt in Focus program this month. Your members will enjoy the much-heralded online financial assessment tool that has already helped over 250,000 consumers understand and take back control of their debt, while Filene and NCUF will be able to continue to fund the programs and ideas that keep pushing the credit union movement forward.

Debt in Focus costs only $1199 for a one-year license, while Filene members pay only half that amount ($599). In our search for effective ways to help consumers navigate troubled economic waters, none have delivered the ease-of-use, accessibility, and cost effectiveness of Debt in Focus.

Please take some time to learn more about Debt in Focus at http://www.filene.org/debtinfocus. You may also view this archived webinar that walks through the program in great detail.

IMPORTANT: For NCUF to receive contributions from Debt in Focus purchases, you must use the form linked on their homepage.

Thank you for helping us continued support of the credit union system, and our virtuous circle.
