The Filene Research Institute has begun a very important research project that will provide significant benefits to the credit union movement by determining the key attributes and performance skills common among highly successful middle managers.
This in-depth research will …
Assist credit unions in understanding what behavioral attributes should be considered when hiring a manager and what coaching and training should be provided to current and potential middle managers to maximize their effectiveness and preparedness. Ultimately this will result in improved employee productivity, engagement and morale for credit unions.
What Filene needs from you …
To successfully complete this research we need the help of credit union CEOs to recommend middle managers from their credit unions that meet the following criteria:- 2 years minimum tenure in management and in current position at least 6 months
- Participant must report to a member of the credit union’s senior management team. The participant must not be a member of the senior management team.
- Evaluated by the credit union’s CEO as within the top 20% of all managers
- Low voluntary turnover of employees in manager’s department
- Consistently rated at the highest performance level on performance evaluations
- Typically exceeds expectations
- Usually receives highest available bonus payout, if one is offered
- Branch Manger
- Accounting Manager
- IT Manager
- Marketing Manager
- Lending Manger
- Collections Manager
A credit union can submit numerous participants. Each participant will then be invited to complete an anonymous on-line assessment, which will take approximately 90 minutes. The information provided by the participant will be combined with that of others to inform a Filene report to be released in 2011.
What you get in return …
To honor your participation we will provide your credit union with the report and key management tactics prior to general release and recognition in the final research document.
It is important for the integrity of the research that you submit only those candidates that meet all seven (7) criteria listed. Should you have questions regarding this research or would like to find out more, you may contact either Mike Neill, President, Michael Neill & Associates, Inc. 888-440-0552 or Ben Rogers, Director of Research, Filene Research Institute, 608-231-8550.
The data you contribute will always be private; our public findings will present anonymous aggregate findings.
Thank you for your interest, but we currently have all the credit unions we need for this study.

Great news, Stephanie. Please fill out the fields above with San Antonio FCU’s contact information and the information of the middle managers you would like to nominate. That information will get directly into our database and the researchers will follow up soon with the surveys.

Can an employee nominate their own manager?

Great question, Carolyn. We ask that if you think your manager qualifies that you send his/her name and this link to your CEO or HR department. That way, we can be sure that person does meet all the requirements above. If your CEO or HR department has any questions, please send them our way. Thanks!

Will you be providing communication pieces about this research to the credit unions to inform the participants whose names and email addresses are being submitted? I’d plan on informing them at the time of submission but didn’t want to re-create the wheel if these communication pieces were part of the study. Thanks!
