  3. Speaking of Change

    At the Filene Research Institute, we believe our namesake, Edward A. Filene, was an important influence on the economic, political, and social movements of his time. He is generally recognized as one of the founding fathers of the U.S. credit union movement. In that spirit, we have decided to reprint the book Speaking of Change as a benefit for all of our members. We believe that Mr. Filene’s words are as insightful and motivational today as they were in the 1930s. Enjoy!

    Filene researchers Jonathan Zinman and Victor Stango of Dartmouth College share insights from a research brief that highlights the consumer’s intuitive assesment of complex math problems and how this affects decision making. The findings: Most people “are biased towards making mistakes that lead to borrowing too much or saving too little.” How can credit unions counteract this bias and help consumers avoid the pitfalls?   6. A Radical Sabbatical and Podcasts

    Filene is pleased to annouce the launch of a sabbatical program for credit union industry executives who are ready to step outside of their jobs for a limited time and devote their experience, energy, and creativity to our research and innovation iniatives. The sabbatical opportunities available will last from three months to two years, depending on the complexity of the project. Filene is already looking to fill two leadership positions now!
